The military sleep method is a body-release protocol that circulates online as “fall asleep in two minutes” — most often in TikToks and YouTube thumbnails. The story has a real source: Lloyd Bud Winter described the technique in his 1981 sports-performance book Relax and Win, attributing it to research on sleep deprivation in WWII-era military aviators.
Whether two minutes is realistic for most people is a different question. What the protocol actually does, and why it works, is worth understanding on its own terms — separate from the timeline that gets it clicked.
What the protocol is
Four steps, in order. The sequence matters. Doing them in order is part of how the nervous system learns to associate the pattern with sleep.

4. Ten seconds of a blank mental image. This is the step most accounts summarize too quickly.
